Ashim is a Ph.D. candidate enrolled in a joint program between the University of Exeter and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore under the guidance of Professor Jonathan Mill at the University of Exeter and Professor Foo Jia Nee at NTU. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in biotechnology from Christ University, Bangalore and a master’s degree in Regenerative Medicine from the School of Regenerative Medicine, Manipal University, Ashim developed a keen interest in neurodegenerative diseases. His current research work focuses on understanding and characterizing the activity of the transposable element, Long Interspersed Nuclear Element-1 (LINE1) within the human brain, with a special emphasis on their potential impact on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s Disease. His primary goal is to explore the role of LINE1 insertions in aging and neurodegenerative conditions.
